On July 8th at IVC, the Marin Swim League participated in the culmination of the 2017 season with the Championship Swim Meet, which was hosted by the Marinwood Waterdevils. Swimmers from all 10 teams participated in this season ending meet, and team camaraderie was evident from the start with boisterous team cheers and enthusiastic clapping at the end of lanes.

Over 1100 swimmers competed in the sweltering heat, yet the weather did not deter our swimmers from having a fantastic showing of amazing swims. The Novato Riptide swimmers posted the highest percentage of personal best swims, and the Terra Linda Orcas and Sleepy Hollow Sea Lions each had 10 swimmers that earned high point trophies. The Terra Linda Orcas had an undefeated dual meet season, but the depth of the Sleepy Hollow Sea Lions ruled the pool on Saturday.

Led by longtime coach Mark Anderson, the Sleepy Hollow Sea Lions, placed first in the meet, and they are once again Marin Swim League Champions.

A note from our Board President, Julie Richards:

Heart beating fast, toes curled around the block, eyes glancing at the other end of the pool and then the starter says “GO!” And so begins a new season of the Marin Swim League. This is the 55th year of the MSL and more than 2,000 kids will be practicing and participating at the upcoming meets. Your MSL board will be working hard this year to make this season runs as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Did you know that the slowest Olympic swim stroke is the breaststroke? It was incredible year to watch the Olympics in Rio and to know that our sport captures the imagination of the globe. Swimmers work long and hard to participate in the Olympics and our swimmers work long and hard during the season to “show their stuff” at Champs. The MSL board, Presidents and coaches want to encourage all swimmers this year to participate in this wonderful event to have the opportunity to show the culmination of their effort, mix and mingle with their peers from other teams, and have a sense of our great swim community. We hope to see you there on July 8th!

I want to thank all of you for your time and commitment to the league and this great sport. Don’t forget you can find information and track the MSL at and friend us on Facebook!

Here’s to a great 2017 season for all!
